The King We Expected and the King We Needed

```
Opening Passage Matthew 21:1–11 (NLT)
"...The crowds spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting, 'Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in highest heaven!'"
Point 1
We all come to Jesus with a king in mind.
Zechariah 9:9 (NLT)
"Look, your King is coming to you; he is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey."
Point 2
Jesus isn't defined by our expectations.
Luke 19:41 (NLT)
"As He approached and saw the city, He wept for it."
Point 3
Jesus doesn't confirm your identity; he replaces it with something better.
Ephesians 1:4–5, 13 (NLT)
"For He chose us in Him... He predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ... and you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit."
Point 4
Letting go of your version of Jesus is how you find the real one.
John 12:16 (NLT)
"His disciples didn't understand at the time that this was a fulfillment of prophecy."
